This week the students studied the adaptations that animals and plants make in order to better survive. They experimented with this by using different implements (tweezers, spoon, tongs, toothpick) as beaks and objects to represent their food. They used this time to make predictions about which birds eat certain things. They timed each other to see how fast each "beak" could work.

This week we concluded our nonfiction unit with some interactive posters about the students' chosen topics. They worked so hard to have them typed and adorned with pictures, captions, graphs, and charts. We have also been practicing teaching people in reading so the work coincided perfectly. The students got to present their work to Mr. Clark and Ms. DiMaggio's class, knowing they were experts, using a teaching voice, answering questions, and pointing out details. They looked like such experts! Afterwards we had a great discussion about what it was like to teach they had a lot of insight! They said they started off nervous but got better, they appreciated when their audience was paying attention but could tell when they weren't. They said they were glad to know a lot about the topic and appreciated good questions. Overall I was really impressed with their work this term! This week the kids got to practice working with charcoal on Monday with Artist Diane. They used this medium to create depth in studying composition. It was a perfect, sunny day. On Tuesday they got to meet their buddies for the first time! They were very sweet with them and both groups loved sharing their buddy bags. Take a look at the pictures below! Thank you for a great week! This week we shared our personal narrative stories with a 4th and 5th grade class, had a bus safety talk, did the nature trail for PE, and had another lesson from artist Diane on watercolors. Check out the pictures below. We had a great week in the Chipmunk room! The kids earned their party in the first month of school and voted for a fort party. The loved building them in the room and we had so many snacks! Thank you to everyone who provided for our good time. We also had our second visit from Artist Diane who has begun teaching the kids about drawing small mammals. We had a great time at Bonneville this week! The weather was perfect which helped a lot for our hike. The park rangers at the dam were very knowledgable and did an excellent job in explaining how the dam and electricity works. I think it'll stick with the kids for a long time to come! Thanks to all the chaperones who were able to come and join us! |
