This week has been energy central! The students have continued the energy unit by making different types of circuits, writing about energy sources for writing workshop, and then got to see how hydro-power is produced at Bonneville. Check out the photos from this week! This week Mr. Bressel, our student teacher, lead the students in two experiments. On Wednesday they studied density by making a rainbow using various sugar-dissolved waters. On Thursday they blew up balloons using baking soda and vinegar. The kids have LOVED doing these and have been making excellent predictions about physical science as they did them. Take a look at these scientists at work! The Zoo Snooze was a terrific success! I'm so impressed with the program the zoo put on - we got to see such amazing, behind the scenes stuff! The hospital, the kitchen, the elephant enclose! And some brave kiddos got to touch a tortoise, bearded dragon, and a SNAKE! All the students had a great time, and everyone went straight to sleep. I'm thankful to the parent chaperones and hope everyone came home happy and tired. What a great way to start spring break! This term the students have been learning about world biomes. This week it was the tundra and desert biomes. In order to explain how animals like, penguins, polar bears, and seals are able to thrive there we looked at an adaptation they have: blubber. The students tried holding their bare hands in water, timing them to see how long they could last. They then tried the same in a bag of crisco. It was amazing to see the difference! Ask your child what they learned from this! Better late than never, we had our Valentine's Day party yesterday. The kids voted on a board game dipping party and they had lots of fun. Valentine's were exchanged and much sugar was consumed. Thank you to everyone who provided for the day. It was a huge success! |
